A coworker of mine received a transcript for Hyle Anderson College. Upon looking for the school's accreditation, she discovered some unbelievable things about this institution which she shared with her coworkers. I will now share these things with you.

"Hyles-Anderson College was started 37 years ago as the fulfillment of the vision of Dr. Jack Hyles. His heart burned with a love and a deep concern for the direction his beloved nation was taking. The United States Supreme Court was permitting the genocide of the unborn infants of this land; the illegal drug culture was at its peak in our public schools; and the rock-and-roll culture of rebellion and promiscuity was having a profound influence upon the teenagers of our land. Brother Hyles feared our country was quickly slipping from the old-fashioned ways upon which she had been founded. He wanted to do what he could to save this nation from the sin and destruction she was bringing upon Herself.

Walking along a highway in Southern California late one night into the early morning hours of the next day, Bro. Our Dress Code
Many think our dress code is too strict. Skirts above the knees are not allowed.
Men must wear neckties to class and must have short haircuts. Young ladies may
not wear shorts or slacks.

Our Old-Fashioned Discipline
Young ladies are not allowed to go off campus unchaperoned. Young men and
young ladies may not date alone in cars. Absolutely no hand holding or other
intimacies are allowed between the genders. There are date nights with bus
transportation and adequate chaperones provided by the college. Student insubordination
is absolutely forbidden.

Our Separatist Position
Absolutely no drinking, smoking, or dancing is allowed. No student is allowed
to attend Hollywood movies, play cards, or participate in other questionable
amusements. We do not fellowship with liberals, but instead take a strict separatist
stand from the world and apostasy.

No dancing? Did they not see "Footloose"?

Seems fair. That's what you get for sinning.

That's socialism. Jesus doesn't like that.

The sexist language isn't surprising, but it kind of is. In the catalog, all students are referred to as "he" and when females are referred to it is either "lady" or "wife".

intended applicants are strongly

At last! A college that doesn't require a high school degree!

Ok, enough. Now onto my critique. Where to start? I don't even know.

And the kicker: Went to look up the accreditation. Typed in "accredidation" into their search engine. Got this message:

Response to my letter from my Senator

I am not very pleased with the response I got my from Senator (Please see post below). I am disheartened by his view on abortion and health care.

I already know all of you are anti-choice and my goal is not to belittle your views. However, after much contemplation (approximately 5 years) on the issue, I have decided that anti-choicers come in a few varieties: The Uninformed, The Willfully Ignorant, The Stupid, and the Nutbars.

My Senator falls under The Willfully Ignorant. "The conscience clause allows doctors to refuse to perform abortions in most circumstances, if doing so conflicts with their views". I have expressed my outrage against doctors who express their political beliefs to their patients enough times, so I'll skip that part. Willfully Ignorant people refuse to believe that abortion is necessary health care for women. They are people who believe that women use abortion as a form of back up birth control. They are the ones who don't want to do the research to understand why abortion is health care. They are the people who make me the angriest, because they are usually women.

I try to ignore the Stupid people. They have "compelling" arguments such as, " If you spread your legs, it's your fault." There is no reasoning with these people, so let's move on.

The Uninformed are just that. They are not aware of the issues and have not been exposed to them. They can sympathize with a woman who gets pregnant as a result of being raped, but doesn't really understand why she would want an abortion. They usually consider themselves to be Pro-Life because they wouldn't have an abortion but they think it should be between a woman and her doctor. (This actually makes them Pro-Choice.) These people tend to be pretty quiet and don't necessarily have much of an opinion on the topic.

The Nutbars are the Jesus fanatics who show pictures of aborted fetuses to 6-year-olds.

I am really disgusted that women's health care is a political issue. My uterus is not my government's business. I do not believe that a fetus is a child. I do not believe that a fetus has a soul. The government is trying to force this belief on all of us.

My question to you is, what happens after the baby is born? Do you really think it's going to be happiness,rainbows and love all around? No. Do you think all these children will get adopted into affluent and loving homes? No. There will be more teenage girls throwing newborn babies into dumpsters, more children in foster care, more abused children, more children living in poverty and more women dependant of welfare and government handouts, which I know all of you hate.

There are too many unwanted children in this world as a result of abortion bans. Child abuse pisses me off and it could be prevented with safe, affordable access to abortion care. For those of you who think abortion is the ultimate child abuse, you can consider yourself to be in the Stupid category.

Abortion is health care.

Letter from my Senator

Dear Ms. Meyer:

Thank you for contacting me regarding abortion. I appreciate the benefit of your views.

For more than thirty years, there has been a long-standing provision in federal law that prohibits federal dollars from being used to pay for abortion except in cases of rape, incest, or danger to the life of the mother. The Senate’s health care reform bill, The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (H.R. 3590), will preserve that prohibition and facilitate coverage choices. The bill would allow consumers to purchase abortion coverage, out of their own pocket, as a part of their individual health plan, while those who do not agree with abortion could choose a different plan. Consumers would need to write a separate check for abortion coverage if they receive any government affordability credits for the rest of their insurance plan. The insurer would then keep money for abortion coverage in a separate account. I support individual choice and therefore support the Senate provisions regarding abortion.

The Senate reform bill also contains a conscience clause for doctors. The conscience clause allows doctors to refuse to perform abortions in most circumstances, if doing so conflicts with their views. Further, it prohibits health plans from discriminating against doctors, based on their choice to provide abortion services or not.

Reforming our nation's health system is not an abortion issue. The Senate bill maintains current federal law in regards to abortion, while bringing our health system into the 21st century, and providing health care to tens of millions of uninsured Americans. I support comprehensive health reform to improve quality, reduce cost, and hold insurance companies accountable.

I will continue to listen closely to what you and other Illinoisans have to say about matters before Congress, the concerns of our communities, and the issues facing Illinois and the nation. My job is not about merely supporting or opposing legislation; it is about bridging the divide that has paralyzed our nation’s politics.

Courtney Love

While reading this, I ask you to think about why you don't like Courtney Love. Is it because she has/had drug problems? Is it because she married Kurt Cobain and you really wanted to? Is it because she's not polite to everyone she meets?



Courtney is my favorite rock star, musician, singer/songwriter, artist of all time. She is a perfect example of sexism in the music industry and wonderful idol for young girls. Yes, Courtney is screwed up a bit, but she's done well for herself despite all the set backs she's had to endure. She was born to parents who didn't love each other and didn't really want her. She managed to take that anger and loneliness and successfully make a music career out of it.



Courtney and Hole evolved from the Riot Grrl movement. (Courtney is a former member of Babes in Toyland. She got kicked out.) She incorporated her feminist views into a band she made mainstream and brought a new way of thinking to many young girls and women with Hole's album, "Live Through This".



What I really admire about her is her inner strength. She goes about her business every day despite great opposition and tremendous roadblocks.



People hate Courtney Love. I mean, REALLY hate her. I think people hate her for the same reasons they hate Hillary Clinton. She's just another outspoken female doing a man's job, which is not acceptable in America.



Courtney is brash, unfeminine and unapologetic: 3 things I love. Hole is currently touring, and I am waiting rather impatiently for them to announce Chicago dates. She is a very talented musician and her lyrics are always empowering and personal.

Shopping Mall Obsession Confession

I love shopping for clothes. It makes me happy. I shop at stores with some of the worst advertising campaigns in history. I love new clothes and designer purses. What I love the most though, is the MALL.

The mall is one of my favorite places because a lot of my favorite memories happened there. When I was a child, I remember my mother taking me to Stratford Square Mall. I remember being fascinated by all the water fountains, the tan square tiles that were slightly uneven and the trees in the middle by the food court. The water fountains and tiles are no longer there, but the last time I was at Stratford I noticed those awesome fake trees have made a triumphant comeback! There also used to be this bitchin elevator that was all glass and came down into the middle of one of the fountains. That was so cool and I wish they still had that. We also used to have lunch at Houlihans. That restaurant looked totally rad. The ceiling wasn't flat. It was almost like waves and large bumps. Maybe if someone else remembers, they can explain it better in the comment section.

When I got older, the mall became my hang out place. Dana and I were always at Stratford Mall. One of my favorite memories, though, is of Oakbrook Mall. In the autumn time, Dana's mother would take us there. We always had a blast making fun of people, and I always liked looking at the overpriced designer clothes.

I go to the mall whenever I'm feeling lousy. It's guaranteed to cheer me up. I'm sure I'm a bad person for spending my money there and on items that were made by children. However, few things make me happier than a new bra and a cute purse. My sincerest apologies, Ms. Gloria Steinem.

Riot Grrl

Anyone my age and older can remember a time (the early to mid 1990's) when bands with women members were all the rage. Remember when Garbage, Veruca Salt and Hole were on the radio all the time? That was because of the Riot Grrl movement.

Because of lesser known bands (at the time) such as Bikini Kill, L7, Team Dresch, Heavens to Betsy and Bratmobile, bands such as the ones previously mentioned were beginning to get signed on major labels.

The media and fashion industry and all other types of popular media discovered that these young women could possibly make them some money. Because feminists don't like crap like that, the Riot Grrl movement disbanded. Unfortunately, so did women artists getting breaks. ( I totally disagree with the rationale behind why the Riot Grrl movement ended. I wish these bands didn't mind becoming popular. Think of how many young women around the world could have been exposed to the message and have saved them from "lipstick and boobs".

I'm not 100% knowledgeable about the music industry today. From my limited observations, I see that there really are no women bands. There is Pink, which from performances I've seen are not entirely feminist friendly. Yes, she has that one song about not being like Lindsey Lohan or something, but the message is lost when she performs practically naked and the majority of her songs about some guy.

Then there is something called Lady Gaga, which, with all my research, I still can't entirely figure out what's going on there other than another female "role model" selling young women fascist images of beauty instead of intelligence and empowerment.

I am discouraged with the music industry. I still hope someday MTV will once again try to sell Riot Grrl to it's viewers.

Hillary Rodham Clinton

I am Hillary Clinton's #1 fan. There is much she has done to gain my admiration. She made a speech at her graduation from Wellesley that, according her her biography, was seen as controversial and inappropriate for the occasion. Ever since, she has not been intimidated to speak out about issues that are unpopular.
What I really admire about her is her bravery and determination. She has a lot of enemies, yet she never shuts up and doesn't let anyone stop her. She doesn't care what other politicians say about her. She doesn't let her opponents get the best of her. I cannot think of one other person in my life, including me, who are like that.
One reason why I'm naming my first daughter after her is because of the 2008 presidential race. She didn't really give a flying crap that Obama really wanted the job too. She fought until the very end, despite being tired and criticized by many Democrats.
I don't understand why all women are not feminists and why all women don't love Hillary. It's unfortunate that strong women are misunderstood. I try to live my life by the motto "What Would Hillary Do?" I wish all women would join in.

I was raised as a Christian. I went to church, Sunday school and after school Bible classes from first grade to my senior year of high school. I was taught many valuable lessons that I still carry with me today. I was taught to love my neighbor. I was taught we should respect anyone who looked different from us. I was taught to "turn the other cheek" when provoked. A big lesson I was taught was that we should never judge people. That was a job for Jesus and God. (In the church I went to, the Bible was interpreted as Jesus and God were two separate entities and that Jesus was the Son of God.) I was also taught that Jesus died on the cross to forgive all of our sins.

Evangelicals should not be calling themselves Christians. The lessons I learned at church have been lost of them. They hate a large percentage of their neighbors. They judge everyone, including their fellow church goers. They also believe that they can be Christ-like, and, in my opinion, perfect. From what I learned from church, none of those people are Christians and they are giving Christians a very bad reputation.

Evangelical Christians hate the entire LGBTQ community and the entire pro-choice community. They are also big supporters of war. In the movie Jesus Camp, young children are told they should be soldiers in God's Army. The Christian God does not have an Army and does not advocate war. They do not turn the other cheek when provoked. They feel it is their duty to tell the LGBTQ community that Jesus does not love them and to harass women trying to seek medical care at Planned Parenthoods around the country. This is a lot of hate and negativity. Hate is not synonymous with Christian.

It is absolutely fine to be a Christian and to disagree with people. What is not fine is calling yourself a Christian and then actively seek to destroy and disrupt people's lives.

I would have much less of a problem with Evangelical Christians if they separated themselves from Christianity and called their religion something else. In fact, I would probably just ignore them and pretend they didn't exist. I unfortunately can't ignore them for many reasons. For one, they managed to become very influential politically. Because of their hate, it's very difficult for the LGBTQ community to live normal, happy lives. Because of their hate, young children are given incorrect information about what an abortion is and why it is sometimes needed. Because of their actions and influence, a growing number of people have come to associate Christianity with something disgusting and corrupt.

There is nothing wrong with Christianity and I think it teaches people how to be decent and caring. In church, I participated in clothing and food drives. I volunteered at a homeless shelter. I went to retreats where I got to hang out with other kids in the area. I learned about donating my time and money and how to care for other people. From the extent of my knowledge, Evangelical children do not get enough exposure to this. Instead, they are taught to speak hatefully to their LGBTQ peers and to call women murderers after a much needed abortion. (If you would like me to explain what a much needed abortion is I would be happy to.) I'm angry about what Evangelical Christians are doing and the garbage and negativity they are indoctrinating their followers with. They are one of the most ignorant and horrid people on the planet.

They are not Christians.

Money

After reading a variety of arguments against health care reform, I've decided it all comes down to one thing: people are assholes about their money.

What's the deal with money (insert lame Seinfeld joke here)? In America, we can't do anything without it. We need money to eat. We need money to sleep. But how much do we really need and what do we need it for?

Some people like to save their money for "special" things: cars, purses, vacations, material possessions. Why don't we save up money to donate to charity?

After paying for my living expenses, I have a substantial amount of money left over. I don't need it for anything. I plan to save it away for any future offspring that may pop out of me and to donate it to those less fortunate.

What value do people get from life by always thinking about money? Why do people buy mansions when their family will fit fine in a 3 bedroom ranch style house?

Capitalism is the law of the land here in America. It's every person for themselves. This is why everyone is miserable. There is no argument against this. I'm 100% right. Think about it. If money was not an issue, what would you be doing with your life? I would be working for a domestic violence shelter and volunteering for Planned Parenthood. I would be much happier and satisfied with my life than I am now.

This isn't science fiction. Many countries in the world are like this (like Sweden. Yay IKEA). In some places, everyone gets paid the same amount of money no matter what their job is. I believe this is Utopia. Everyone would have a job they loved and they wouldn't be overworked. There is plenty of time to spend with your family and pursue hobbies. These countries also offer way more vacation time than American jobs. (I don't have time to provide you with the research. Google it yourself.)

Yes, I would love to live in one of those countries. I don't because America is my home. I want to see it change into one of these countries. I want to be able to pursue any career I want without worrying about how I'm going to pay my rent.

Who are the happiest people in the world? Check out this article by Forbes. The article said the U.S. didn't make the top 10. Duh.

My point? Maybe if our society didn't preach financial gain and encourage overspending, Americans would be much happier.

Money does not buy happiness. Your SUV won't make you happy. Your $400,000 house won't make you happy. Spend your money wisely and give the rest of it to someone who really does need it.

It might help you get off Prozac.

Sylvia Plath

For the past few months, I have been reading Sylvia Plath's diary. I've discovered I have a lot in common with her. She knew what she wanted.

Plath's diary is written like a novel. Even though she had not planned for anyone to read it, she wrote intelligently. She was extremely ambitious (she attended Smith College and then won a Fulbright Scholarship to Cambridge) and was always planning her next move. Our personalities are so similar, it makes me think I could be a world famous writer someday. :>)

I would recommend Plath's work to anyone interested in studying life. "The Bell Jar" is her most popular work. After reading her diary, I discovered that this book is 100% about her experience during the time she worked for Mademoiselle. This is Plath's biography disguised as a novel. Brilliant.

On February 11, 1963, at age 30, Sylvia Plath committed suicide. She was too smart for a woman of the 1950's and had struggled to have a writing career of her own despite a failed marriage and having to care for two small children.

After reading her diary and contemplating on her life, I think Sylvia Plath was a very brave woman who successfully overcame her depression and celebrated life. Her suicide is not what defines her. That's just the way her body died. Her soul is still in her books and poetry.

Weddings

I really did not want to address this topic here, but some reactions to my engagement have fascinated me. My partner and I are planning a non-traditional wedding, like most people getting married these days. After conversations with a few people, it's amazing how traditional non-traditional weddings are expected to be.

Let's start with the engagement. I asked him. That didn't surprise anyone. I didn't ask for a ring. Some people looked at me dumbfounded. One girl said, " O my god, o my god, o my god, let me see it!!!". I said I didn't' have one. She looked like I said pure gibberish. I did get a ring however. Eric wanted me to have one, and managed to convince me it's not for ownership purposes. It's not a diamond. More confusion. "But your not really engaged if it's not a diamond". O dear! What is an engagement then?

Some more non-traditional wedding ideas that leave people stumped, as I have recently discovered:

1) No white dress
2) No tuxedos
3) No bridal party
4) No reception ( this one also elicits blank stares)
5) No flowers
6) No gifts or money donations (No one understands this, when in fact it's rather simple. Marriage shouldn't be about profiting off your friends or receiving toasters and blenders. We don't need anything we can't buy ourselves. )
7) No cake (I thought this was becoming more common, but it's still disapproved)
8) No fancy invitations or save the dates
9) No favors or gifts for attending our ceremony (Dumb idea. Our asking you to come is your gift)
10) No music (It's in a park. The geese and bugs will provide lovely tunes)
11) Not needing to be the center of attention ("But it's your special day." No, it's Eric's too and will be special no matter what.)
12) No veil
13) No father giving me away to my husband ( How many goats am I worth?)

My wild ideas are very offensive to some people. I don't understand why.

I love that show Bridezillas. I'm sure some of it is over dramatized, but I'm also sure there are actual people like that in this world. In one episode, this woman didn't like her veil so she ripped it up. It cost about $700. In another one, some chick got mad at something and put her $3,000 dress in the bathtub. My ideas for what I don't want at my wedding have come from this show. Brides are treated like farm animals and out of control consumers. Too many women buy into it without stopping to think if they should. I can't help but think most women get married to have an over-the-top party and act like a princess for the day. Businesses that cater to weddings are excellent at making this happen. Weddings supposedly cost around $20,000. For what? All you need is the marriage license.

Why am I getting married? Excellent question, considering I've been saying I'm against getting married for most of my life. First of all, it was my decision. I'm not getting married for security or money or for social reasons. (Yes, some women want to get married because all their friends are married.) I'm in it for more practical reasons. Eric is an excellent life partner. He gives me plenty of space and allows me to grow as a person. We are both free to pursue any hobbies or interests or even careers. Neither one of us is dependant on the other for anything, including money or a social life. We are very compatible and are excellent communicators. We are friends first and there is no jealousy between us. I think I am very lucky because many people are in marriages that are nothing like this.

I have a great relationship with Eric, why complicate it with marriage? I am looking forward to sharing my life with Eric. That includes all my health decisions, financial decisions and anything else that comes along. I want him to have access to all my junk and to be the one in charge of my assets if I croak.

CNN Reports Feminists are Ugly and Hairy

This article is 45% my opinion

Erick Erickson, CNN's newest contributor believes feminists are "too ugly to get a date", according to his Twitter account. Yes, this person got hired as a journalist.

As a professional journalist, Erickson should try harder to keep his stupidity to himself. My issue, however, is with CNN. What were they thinking? His illiterate comments should be enough to get him kicked out. Most likely he'll end up with his own show, lose all his corporate sponsorships and then get hired at FOX News.

But lets' talk about where Erickson got these preconceived ideas about feminists. Just from his Twitter account, he believes feminists are: "Feminazi's, too ugly to get a date (in addition all ugly feminists should return to the kitchen); also, his reaction to Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize: "I did not realize the Nobel Peace Prize had an affirmative action quota for it” . Where do these stereotypes come from? (FYI: Feminazis's were women in Germany during the 1930's who had at least 8 boys to contribute to the Hitler Youth. They were given certificates. Ah, responsible journalism! Reporting prejudiced stereotypes of women's rights workers as fact.

Chicago Public Schools

This article is 100% my opinion.
The Chicago Public School (CPS) system has been increasingly featured in the Chicago Tribune. CPS is proposing budget cuts, laying off teachers and closing low performing schools. What's the difference between a high school in Chicago and a high school in Naperville, which is never hurting for funds?


Naperville
*900 different sports programs
*Access to the latest technology
*SUV's for behind the wheel
*Relevant, up-to-date textbooks
*Academic achievement above average
*Kids who have iPods, Blackberrys, whatever new Nintendo system is out and a Cadillac Escalade for their 16th Birthday
*Parents who protect their kids from violence on TV and in video games
*White kids


Chicago
*Roughly about 3-4 sports programs
*200 students to one 1992 computer
* What's "behind the wheel"?
* Textbooks from 1987
* Academic achievement below average
* Kids who have to find a job (if they're lucky), join a gang and steal just to keep themselves clothed and fed
* Parents (if applicable) who try to protect their kids from getting shot in the front yard
* Minority kids


The people in charge of CPS are no different than million-dollar-a-movie making celebrities that feel the need to "raise money" for Haiti when they have enough money to rebuild Haiti on their own. They don't care about the kids, the community or education. They want to give pay cuts to teachers and cut even more programs. These kids are left with nothing. A half hour commute to school, being transferred from school to school, learning about only math, English and maybe reading about dead white guys. No wonder their dropout rates are so high. They are essentially learning nothing but survival skills.

Want to know why kids join gangs? There is literally nothing else to do. They get booted out of the school system, have no after school activities, can't find jobs and get shot at everyday. Their only way of making money and being quasi-protected is from joining a gang. These kids have little chance of making it to college.

The people in charge of Naperville schools would crap their pants if they didn't have enough money for football, choir or the debate team. But to share their surplus to help out the black kids trying to get into DePaul or Loyola? F that!
